Info: How Ballistic Works

So now lets back to the business.. Forget the crap about last post. That's just about a commercial break done for someone else.. Lolx.. In this chapter, we gonna learn about how bullets work either for gun, machine gun, or other types of firearms.. First of all , we need to know what is explosion as the main cause of ballistic movement were related to fire and explosion.

Well I'm sorry to say that i can get any citation at the following notes because it comes from my lecture. A credited to Dr. Rafiziana Md. Kasmani by providing some of the following lecture:

What is Explosion:
A sudden chemical explosion of a flammable material (in this case, we use gunpowder) with oxygen action which causes a sudden a sudden formation of a great volume of expanded gas and release of high energy.

Early Concept of Ballistic:
You apply explosive pressure behind a projectile to launch it down a barrel. The earliest, and simplest, application of this idea is the cannon.

Example: The Flintlock Cannon:
When you ignite [A] gunpowder [C], it burns rapidly, producing a lot of hot gas in the process. The hot gas applies much greater pressure on the powder side of the­ cannonball [B] than the air in the atmosphere applies on the other side. This propels the cannonball out of the gun at high speed. Now let's take a look the inside of the bullet catridge:

Ballistic Background: The Cartridge
Simply put, cartridges are a combination of a projectile (the bullet), a propellant (gunpowder, for example) and a primer (the explosive cap), all contained in one metal package. The primer will ignite the propellant

Example: Revolver
We going to see how the explosion occur in a firearm. In example, we'll see how revolver works.

This gun has a revolving cylinder, with six breeches for six cartridges. When you pull the trigger on a revolver, several things happen:

1. Initially, the trigger lever pushes the hammer backward.
   • As it moves backward, the hammer compresses a metal spring in the gun stock (the handle).
   • At the same time, the trigger rotates the cylinder so the next breech chamber is positioned in front of the gun barrel.
2. When you pull the trigger all the way back, the lever releases the hammer.
3. The compressed spring drives the hammer forward.
4. The hammer slams into the primer at the back of the cartridge, igniting the primer.
5. The primer sets off the propellent. (Explosion Occur Here)
6. The exploding propellent drives the bullet out of the gun at high speed.

The inside of the barrel has a spiral groove cut into it, which serves to spin the bullet as it exits the gun. This gives the bullet better stability as it flies through the air, increasing accuracy.

When the propellant explodes, the cartridge case expands. The case temporarily seals the breech, so all the expanding gas pushes forward rather than backward.

Conclusion:

A sudden formation of combustion from propellent caused the bullet to explode and exits the gun by the ignition at primer of the catridge. Well that is only a few info on how the ballistic works in which relate to my study of combustion and explosion. More to come after this is on how the grenade works.

New Invention: Heat Sink For Firearms Barrel

Background Of The Invention

Firearm have long had a problem of the barrel becoming overheated when a high number of rounds are fired in rapid succession through the weapon.

The barrel absorbs heat primarily from the combustion attendant to the firing of a weapon, and the heat produced both by the friction of the bullet and of the muzzle gasses leaving the barrel.

Disadvantages of Overheating Barrel
May lead to heat-induces changes within the metallurgical structure of the barrel. It may wrap the barrel, and, thereby, both increase the misfiring rate of the weapon and decrease its accuracy.

Overheated weapon is difficult to handle, position, and transport. Accordingly, it is desirable to force an increase in the rate of heat transfer of heat from firearms subject to such conditions.

The First Invention To Reduce Overheated Barrel
Several of device are intended to be permanently affixed to the firearm, or to be integral to design of the firearm itself. Some have used water or air to cool the barrel; other have use muzzle gasses or a material closely attached to the firearm barrel to conduct heat away from the barrel in an efficient manner.

Examples:

Automatic Gun (George Hookham, 1899): A ribbed, tapered barrel which is fluted toward the breach. The extreme rear end is smooth in order to fit into a bushing, which is contained in the body of the gun. A casing surround the barrel, so that a channel is formed between the casing and barrel.

Air-cooled Gun (Scott Paine, 1942): A cooling jacket surrounds the barrel and and ribbed sleeve. The cooling jacket is pressed into the breach at the rear end. Figure as follows:

All of these devices appear to require customization to fit each specific firearm. They do not appear to be easily removed or refitted to a different firearm. Many also have been dependent on forcing air or water through a cooling channel, sometimes disadvantageously necessitating the use of auxiliary equipment.

It is, therefore, readily apparent that there is a need for an improved firearm heat sink that is easily attached to the barrel of firearm; that provides for easy removal and refitting to another firearm; and, that is lightweight, easy to manufacture, can be rapidly installed, and will easily adapt to a wide variety of firearm.

Brief Summary Of The Invention

The present invention both overcomes the above-mentioned disadvantages, and meets the recognized needs for such device, by providing a firearm heat sink which is easily removed from one firearm, and easily refitted to another.

In all embodiments, an underlying heat conduction material may be provided to fill gaps between the barrel and heat sink, and to provide adequate contact there between.

Thus, it is an object of the present invention to provide new and improved heat sink for mounting upon the firearm which can be easily fitted and refitted to a variety of firearms, fit a variety of sizes of firearm barrels, can be rapidly installed and easily manufactured. More detailed will be discuss by following figures:

The following picture shows a better understanding of heat sink mostly for all user. The engine block of a motorcycle or even a car uses almost the same concept of heat sink that invented to reduce heat in engine. The same concept goes to the invention of heat sink for firearm barrel.

Engine Block used a heat sink to increase the rate of heat transfer between the engine and the environment.

Bad News: Selling Guns As Low As RM 3..!!~

Damn.. This is such a bad news to us who currently wants to grow up to be an airsofters.. I don't know where this supplier comes from when suddenly I read today's news that stated that U can even get this "Gun" even as low as MYR 3 (USD 0.88)..

It also said that the criminal/robber can bought this "cheap weapon" to threaten the victim or even rob the 24hours store.. I don't know what to say anymore bout this.. since this situation getting more extremely dangerous and cautious now.. And now the police keep on searching for other Airsoft supplier to completely banned the selling of this "gun" in Malaysia.. Could somebody help us to fix this problem..????

Perhaps, we could go to somewhere else that permit us to play Airsoft.. So let say, how bout The Teletubbies Land?? HAHAHAHA =P (I'm completely Gone Mad Right Now.. lolx)

Airsoft Legalization: What Can WE Do To Legalize Airsoft

As far as i concerned, Airsoft gun/rifle (or even some of its gear) are totally banned in our country (Malaysia). So right now, what else can be done instead of sit back and watch other country play this game? Last time I heard that Airsoft legalization was still pending until unknown further notice from the law enforcement. Well at least, our airsofters still have an effort to fight against the prohibited game in our country. If we compare to other country such as Philippines, they still fight in the same field like us.

Today, the airsoft hobbyist from Philippine has long been locked in mock combat with the PNP (Philippine National Police) regarding the classification of their ‘toys’.

“Under PNP regulations, cal. 22 and above are considered firearms. So based on that PNP regulation which is also based on another law, it is considered a firearm. You could be charged with illegal possession. I believe that the police are strictly enforcing that. It just happens that airsoft is 6 mm. Those considered as firearms are 5.5 mm.” Biazon says.

Also included in the ban are ‘imported toy firearms and explosives which, except for its weight are replicas in appearance, measurements, color and parts as its genuine counter part firearms and explosives’ With the war gaming industry becoming more popular, enthusiasts say the possibility of airsofters crossing paths with the police wouldn’t be rare anymore. Such instances could create more tension as authorities would be further concerned about the proliferation of the ‘toy’ guns which could be used by criminals. Thus, airsoft hobbyists feel the urgency for their wargame toys to be legalized, which they believe could be achieved through the repeal of the LOI (Letter of Intent) by legislation and the support of the PNP.

“I felt that there’s no real organized effort to go into legalization. I believe that what we have been doing lately is just a start. So far, I haven’t heard of strong anti-gun legislation.” Biazon says. “Now that we have a heightened issue on terrorism, therefore it’s not yet the right time. Because some how, people will find ways to connect it,” he equips.

“Legislation is an art of compromise. WE should respect the rights of the authorities. In the draft bill, instead of prohibiting the PNP, it shall promulgate the necessary rules and regulations of the manufacture, sale and distribution of the firearm replicas. Someone said it’s vague. The reason behind its vagueness is that it is already a movement from prohibition to regulation. It’s already a one step forward. If a bill will be prescribing details of the rules and regulations, it will be subject to intense scrutiny from other lawmakers, especially those who know nothing about Airsoft.”

“Below 500 fps, there’s no need to register. Meaning, practically Airsoft is allowed. We adopted it, so when we present the bill, we could say that this is being used in other countries,” he says. Biazon also suggests that aside from legislation, there is a need to regulate the players themselves. He also cites the need to be coordinated with and not antagonize the police, who are implementing the law.

Biazon added that, “It is also very important for Airsofter to know what they can do to project to the public that they are responsible. And that this is just one of the sports being played in all parts of the country that there are organized teams competing in an existing game site. This way it will help demolish the drive and the arguments against this activity. The simple argument is the thought that it could be used in committing a crime. But if we can prove that it is widely played and there’s no incident reported that used Airsoft guns for illegal purposes, therefore there is no basis for unrest,” he says.

He stresses though, that local governments could boost the legalization drive by cooperating with the PNP. This way the tendency of the police to abuse their power to confiscate would be minimized, if not prevented.

Perhaps with one of this idea on legalization of Airsoft in Malaysia could bring up new bill and rights to play the Airsoft games. Some of the recent visitors ask for a forum and suggested that we can make a petition and brought it to our local law enforcer. Game Fiction Vs Real Military Advanced

I used to play the Command & Conquer General:Zero Hour game about 3-4 years ago. In the C&CGZ, in multiplayer mode, you need to choose one of the following general to command all your units which is:

But what is most surprised me is about the USA Laser General. General "Pinpoint" Townes plays more like the regular USA Army than the other two USA generals. He has modified Crusader Tanks called "Laser Crusaders"; these are outfitted with a high powered laser cannon that exceeds ordinary tank cannons in firepower and fares better against infantry and structures, however, has a shorter range. He can build the Laser Patriot Defense Turrets; Patriot Turrets outfitted with a Laser Cannon; this change makes the Laser Patriot effective against almost everything.

At first i thought that the Laser idea is just about some game fiction. But nowadays, the USA military had done something that is more realistic with Laser System. One of the newest technology comes with Airborne Laser (Boeing) which will locate and track missiles in the boost phase of their flight, then accurately point and fire the high-energy laser, destroying enemy missiles near their launch areas.

Airborne Laser (ABL)

General Characteristic:

The ABL program places battle management and beam control/fire control systems and a high-energy Chemical Oxygen Iodine Laser (COIL) on a modified Boeing 747-400F aircraft to detect, track and destroy all classes of ballistic missiles in their boost phase of flight. ABL also can pass information on launch sites, target tracks and predicted impact points to other layers of the global ballistic missile defense system.

Boeing provides the aircraft, battle management and overall systems integration and testing. Northrop Grumman supplies the megawatt-class, high-energy laser, and Lockheed Martin provides the beam control/fire control system.

In 2007, the program successfully demonstrated in active flight tests that ABL’s battle management and beam control/fire control systems can complete the full series of steps required to support a ballistic missile engagement.

Completed installation of the high-energy laser in the aircraft in July 2008 and began firing the laser onboard the aircraft in ground testing in September 2008. Additional ground firings of the laser will set the stage for flight tests of the entire ABL weapon system, culminating in an airborne intercept test against a ballistic missile in 2009.

Offensive weapon: the envisaged air-based anti-missile laser system

The Capabilities Of this ABL:

• Operates autonomously, above the clouds, outside the range of threat weapons but sufficiently close to enemy territory
• Engages early, destroying ballistic missiles in their boost phase of flight over launch area
• Cues and tracks targets, communicating with other joint theater assets for layered defense system

The Unique Of ABL:

• Nose-mounted turret with 1.5m telescope that focuses beams on missile and collects return image and signals
• Beam Control System to acquire and track targets with precision accuracy
